How to Set Up 2 Monitors to Quadruple Your Productivity

Are you tired of opening different windows and having to click back and forth just to get something done? Is it slowing your workflow down to a crawl?

Got a Monitor you’re not using?

Here is how I quadrupled my productivity by adding a second monitor to my laptop in a few easy steps

Open your Control Panel and click on Personalization and you get the screen below

Personalization

There you want to click on “Connect a projector or other external display”. That will bring you to the Windows Mobility Center

At this point make sure your external monitor is connected to the Comm port of your computer, then click Connect Display which will give you the next Screen.

Choose Show different parts of my desktop on each dispaly and apply/Ok.

You should now be seeing the same Background on both screens but will only see the Icons on the “Main screen”. Open an application, then drag it to the other screen (be sure it is reduced in size, maximized won’t move).

Each application will work independently on the individual monitor you choose to work on. (ie Internet Explorer on the right screen and Outlook Express on the other screen) This way you can perform multiple tasks on each monitor independently.

Experiment with different applications you use simultainously using both screens and you will see a marked increase in your productivity too.

The above was done using Windows Vista but any good Operation System will be similar in principal to accomplish the same objective.

Testing Using Revver for Video Embeds

I am considering using a new service I found called Revver that I can easily Embed a Video into a Blog post. If it works well enough, I may start using it as a weekly feature or when it is appropriate as a way of explaining some features rather than just putting words on the screen.

Ok, as I said in the Vid, it is only a test.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Joe

BTW, I will do a review of my findings on the service after testing, so stay tuned.

Those of you who are using the RSS feed, you will have to click the Post Title to see the Video, sorry.

What Do YOU Want to Know?

This may seem a little early in the process, since the Blog has only existed for a little over a month, but I wanted to ask you for your Questions.

I can write anything about what I know regarding fixes, programs, shortcuts etc. But, even though these solutions are proven to work, I am only guessing at what may be useful to YOU. So, what I would like to do is open a dialogue with you and find out what you have questions about.

Do you want information about:

  • Online Problems?
  • Offline Solutions?
  • Anti-virus/malware programs?
  • How to’s on installation of plugins/add-ons?
  • Adjusting/Adapting Webpage or Blogging platforms?
  • Hardware problems with your PC?

This is NOT a sales pitch. This is to try to provide you with information that will help you solve some of the problems you incur in your day to day use of your computer. And it may possibly help others who are running into the same situations.
