- Your stationery is more cluttered than Warren Beatty’s address book. The letterhead lists a fax number, e-mail addresses for two on-line services, and your Internet address, which spreads across the breadth of the letterhead and continues to the back. In essence, you have conceded that the first page of any letter you write is letterhead.

- You have never sat through an entire movie without having at least one device on your body beep or buzz.

- You need to fill out a form that must be typewritten, but you can’t because there isn’t one typewriter in your house, only computers with laser printers.

- You think of the gadgets in your office as “friends,” but you forget to send your father a birthday card.

- You disdain people who use low baud rates.

- When you go into a computer store, you eavesdrop on a salesperson talking with customers, and you butt in to correct him and spend the next twenty minutes answering the customers’ questions, while the salesperson stands by silently, nodding his head.

- You use the phrase “digital compression” in a conversation without thinking how strange your mouth feels when you say it.

- You constantly find yourself in groups of people to whom you say the phrase “digital compression.” Everyone understands what you mean, and you are not surprised or disappointed that you don’t have to explain it.

© My Computer Back in Service If you are reading this anywhere other than my RSS Feed, please contact me at mcbsconsulting@gmail.com

MacBook Pro

How long does your laptop’s battery last on a single full charge? I still remember when this MacBook was new – I could stay unplugged from four to six hours (depending on what I was doing) without becoming edgy because of having to be absolutely sure that there was an available socket. Today, after many months of almost constant use, my laptop battery gives me about 3 hours max – if I am lucky.

I know that, for sure, I am not alone in this. Every laptop user experiences battery issues, and I am willing to bet that many will pay for a solution that results in longer battery life – as long as it does not involve having to lug around an extra 5 pounds!

The good news is that there is an existing solution to getting more out of your battery. It is simple – you simply need to change the way your laptop uses Wi-Fi. Of course, the average user will not want to waste time monitoring and tweaking settings all the time. And it may not even be possible to monitor and retrieve all the necessary data.

That’s where the new system called SleepWell comes into the picture. This technology has been developed by Justin Manweiler of Duke University. His idea is based on the fact that Wi-Fi drains the laptop battery (and other devices, for that matter) faster than a mosquito can suck your blood. 1 This is even more applicable when there are a lot of devices around you competing for the Wi-Fi signal. With the plethora of Wi-Fi enabled gadgets these days, it is inevitable that your laptop’s battery will always be working hard because of Wi-Fi.

The solution? SleepWell will take control of the laptop’s activity with respect to accessing the Wi-Fi when there are other devices around. This simply means that when another laptop in the vicinity is hogging the bandwidth temporarily and there’s nothing you can do about it, SleepWell will let your laptop “rest”, thereby conserving your battery. The great thing is that SleepWell has been designed to cycle stagger the activity cycles of your laptop (or other device) so that you will not notice (or barely notice) the sleep times – performance is not affected.

The ultimate result – possibly double the battery life that you have now!

This is very new, but if it really does work as it is supposed to, we might very well see the technology applies in the near future.

At least that’s what Consumer Reports tells us in the latest report it published. The report that has been released sings the praises of Apple laptops and hails the MacBook Air line and MacBook Pro line as the best that one can have in the market.

Consumer Reports compared some of the most popular brands – including the Macs, of course – taking the sizes into consideration. Whichever size you pick, though, the Macs came out on top.

For the 11-inch category – it’s a no-brainer. The 11-inch MacBook Air came out as the preferred laptop, beating HP and Gateway. For the 13-inch category, the results were pretty much the same. The 13-inch MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and MacBook all got impressive scores. Nothing’s different with the 15-inch and 17-inch categories, except that the MacBook Pros got all the top spots.

Aside from the machines themselves, Apple also got the top spot for their tech support. If you are an Apple user, you have got to admit that AppleCare does have its merits, and you are probably nodding your head as you read all about how good Apple computers are. No arguing about that.

If you have not tried an Apple computer, though, this report just might convince you to give one a try. You might have heard this story many times before, but let me just say it one more time – as a former Windows user turned Mac user, the level of satisfaction is really something else. This is not about being a fangirl or anything like that – it’s all about having a machine that does the job and does it well.

It seems that technology can do just about anything. From directing your every move, to what you’re going to eat for dinner, to using a reverse phone lookup. Even though their presence has increased in our lives, some companies are doing better than others. The PC hasn’t been doing to well for years now. Apple has been hitting the market, like clockwork, with increasingly newer and fresher innovations that, coupled with an aggressive marketing campaign, has made them a consumer favorite. Most Apple products are far more expensive than their PC counterpart but people are still driven to purchase these high-end machines. Some say that their increased reliability and brand recognition are just a few of the reasons for this success but PC’s aren’t out of the game. Some PC manufactures hope to revitalize their candidacy for supremacy in the computing market with newer sleeker laptops.

Until now, PC has been competing with Apple and it’s approach has been its beneficial price difference. Everyone is making PC’s these days and competition is stiff which is motivating many of the Microsoft based computing systems to find cheaper and cheaper ways to produce an affordable laptop. But there’s one difference between the two computing camps, there’s only one Mac, and it’s clobbering the PC world, both in brand recognition and sales.

Intel recently asked designers to create a game changer. They wanted a better laptop that had to compete with Apple’s fashionable models, sate of the art wireless internet connective capabilities, and the fastest computing capabilities currently possible, and they want it all as thin as a Motorola Razr. Only one engineer, Ziba Design, rose to the challenge.

Ziba Design, based out of Portland, Oregon, hopes to create the next generation of computers that will finally allow PCs to recapture the top spot in the computer world. It wants to make the world’s thinnest notebook. They’re hoping to come in at less than 0.7th’s of an inch thick. This commuter, code-named Intel Mobile Metro Notebook, is hoped to be the smallest, most efficient, technological advancement in computers to date. It has to be the best to beat the Mac, apparently.

It’s up against a lot of odds and many are wondering if it will meet the challenge. Apple has many factors on its side such as: superior brand recognition, greater sales, consumer loyalty, and excellent advertising. People love the iconic Apple image and it has become a trademark in every film and media presentation. This new notebook is definitely the underdog in this fight and only time will tell if this new design will be able to compete with its Apple counterpart, the Macbook Air.

Happy with the speed your laptop’s dual core processor gives you? If you are, then you’ll be even happier once you change it for one that uses a quad core processor.

Via Technologies just announced this week the release of their latest processor – the QuadCore X86. The X86 is designed with mainstream laptops and desktops in mind, but is also great for budget laptops and netbooks. It is meant to run multimedia, productivity, a Internet applications, and can do this easily operating at a speed of 1.2 GHz without drawing on too much power.

According to Via, the processor is one of “the lowest power quad core processors” you can find. With the X86 operating at merely 2.5 watts of power, their statement is clearly true. The low power consumption of the X86 is due to the fact that it is simply a combination of VIA’s two Nano X2 processors, which although released just last January, has proven itself in terms of power consumption. However, according to Jose Vilches of TechSpot, Brazos and Atom still has an edge over the X86 with a lower power consumption although it is competitively priced, being a low-cost processor.

Still, though we appreciate this quad core processor from VIA, we don’t expect them to oust Intel or AMD when it comes to being the processor of choice for PC manufacturers. With VIA having such a small marketshare of approximately 0.2%, it will have to content itself with slowly eating away at the market of AMD (18.9%), and Intel (80.8%). This is despite Intel’s quad core laptop processors performing much worse in terms of power consumption with their i7 processor operating at about 45 watts. Still, we’ll see what happens when VIA starts shipping of its newest chip to PC manufacturers later this year.

You are among the nearly two billion Internet users. And our number is steadily increasing to about 28%, says Internet World Stats. Everybody is getting more and more hooked up on the Net that mobility might soon be obsolete.

Well, not really. With the use of wireless gadgets like laptops, people can still be connected to the Net without sacrificing mobility. Even better, the online world can now work hand-in-hand with the offline world. That’s mobility and connectivity in one. Just take the Cydcor Community as an example.

Mobility on Community Service

The Cydcor Community is actually a way for Cydcor Company to give more to receive more, so as the Bible says.

The company has internal programs, like the Neighborhood Leader, that are dedicated to supporting charities and volunteering for community services.

The team has recently held the project “Heal the Bay,” wherein more than 50 pounds of rubbish were collected along the Zuma Beach. Another project it is currently having is the “Operation Smile”. Along with other organizations, this campaign aims to raise funds for repair of children’s facial deformities that hinder them to have that big smile. What a noble way to use mobility!

But not only mobility…

With the power of Internet connectivity, the Cydcor Community and other organizations have spread the word about their campaigns.

Besides, if there is an easy and cheap way to reach nearly two billion potential donors and volunteers, would you not use it? Cydcor did and it has gotten great benefits from doing so, both for its community service and its business.

Mobility is Good Business

Amidst every marketing business going after connectivity, Cydcor has been doing business offline and on mobility. It’s called face-to-face sales and Cydcor happen to be the leader on this field.

The face-to-face marketing, as the name implies, is literally talking personally with potential customers as a way to market products. The company uses this strategy to provide aggressive and widespread marketing campaign for its company clients like AT&T and Direct Energy, to name a few.

Mobility and connectivity is easy for Cydcor, anyway. It has a team of more than 3,000 salespersons, distributed to about 200 offices in the USA and Canada. They have proven the power of mobility when the company has generated about $2 billion profits for its clients by bringing them 100,000 new customers every month.

So you see. It’s true that traveling or mobility is a great way to discover the world—both in business and in community service. Best of all, mobility doesn’t have to sacrifice Internet connectivity because everyday, the offline and online worlds are becoming more and more as one.

Web design is primarily related to the fashion in which certain software, internet product is being presented, or it may also be termed as the creation of a website for the purpose of presenting various text documents, images, sounds, business files, etc in a presentable and acceptable style.
All the information remains stored inside a web server. Various text forms as well as images and videos can be placed on the desired page using HTML/XHTML/XML tags. The concerned web pages are of the following two types:

•	Static web pages, which do not show frequent changes in their contents, until and unless the concerned page is being updated regularly.

•	Dynamic web pages, which are characterized by a change in their respective natures which means that they can adapt themselves with respect to the corresponding changes in the computing environment, due to probable chances of cases when complex web applications are being used.
Web designing has gained such a magnitude of popularity among the browsers and internet buggers all over the world that web design contests are now held in order to test the merit of those concerned people in the field of web designing. A few web design contests are as follows:

1.	Nakshatra MCA meets.
2.	Ferdinand Verbiest.
3.	Kongregate.

The web designers all over the world have also formed various communities and groups. One such example is that of “The Open Design Community”. Web design is certainly an emerging trend in the modern world, and it has certainly got bright prospects in the recent future in the field of emerging web technologies.

As someone who frequently finds themselves on the move due to their work, you’d probably be interested in cutting down your calling costs, especially if you’re the businessman type who always keeps calling different people to keep their operations rolling. A calling card often gives you far better conditions than the local phone services would, especially if you compare it to the costs of hotel phones and other similar services. However, make sure you make your choice a good one, as you may otherwise find yourself paying a lot more than you intended to.

Finding a good phone card abroad can be tricky, especially to the less-experienced consumers – there are a lot of potential pitfalls and things to be wary of, so in most cases it’s usually better to get your cards from your country of origins and have them ready before you set out. This will save you not only time, but money when you’re abroad, and will allow you to focus on your work and business as you should.

Use your phone card wisely – it may come with some good-looking plans, but remember that the company providing the card is ultimately a business looking to benefit, and as such they’ll probably have a good plan in place to get you paying some hefty charges if you’re careless with using your card. Use it wisely though, and it’s going to benefit you quite a lot in the long run.
